Site outtage

Post by Spike »

The board has been running fairly slowly lately and our traffic has been steadily growing. Currently we have been sharing a server with a few other clients but this just isn't going to work anymore.

We have a new server that will be dedicated to our site with a fair bit more HP and lots more memory. We will be starting the migration to this server this week. As a result sometime in the next two weeks we will be switching over to it. I hope to keep the downtime to just the length of a DNS change which typically takes 24 hours or so to propagate over the net. We will give you a better defined period once we know. I have to build the server from the ground up software wise so it will take a bit to harden the box, etc.

I hear a Tim Allen skit running through my head... my web site wasn't powerful enough, so I rewired it...

Yes, I date back to when Tim Allen was funny.

People who complain about 70 degree weather should try building an airplane in Minnesota or other Northern states! It was -1 degree last night and it is only supposed to get to 15 degrees Fairhenhight (Sp?) above on Friday. I am putting my boot cowl on permantly and about to start fiberglassing in the windscreen. I have heat in my shop but I sure hate to have to use so much of it in March!

It was absolutely gorgeous weather here in California's vast Central Valley. Low 70's, zero wind, and... I was stuck in data center at work.

It was cool and drizzly here and I was inside all day too.

Looks like we had the same weather!

About a week and a half ago , got back from a 45 day work trip to the western coast of Puerto Rico. Mid 80's during the day, and low humidity, lows around 67-69 at nite when I was at work.

Get back to the Atlanta area with much cooler temperatures and get sick, go figure.

Thanks Spike, I know how much work that is.

We got about 6" of snow overnight and this morning, still below freezing, but the sun is out now and most of the main roads are already cleaned up.

Update:

The server has been built and mostly configured. Spike is going to take RB down tomorrow morning for the DNS change and to make some last minute configuration changes that he really can't make until the DNS is done. He's going to put up a new splash page on the new server so you'll know when your DNS entry for RB has changed. Keep an eye on that page for updates on when the forums will be back up.

The outage will be no more than 48 hours, so please don't keel over from withdraw symptoms. We know that the thought of losing RB for up to 48 hours is very scary, but we promise that things will will be great on The Other Side.

BTW, because we run all of our domain names and email ourselves, Spike's email might be inaccessible for a bit of time too. If your email to him bounces, retry later. Same for our builder's log and my sites.

That is all.

I'm sure it will be less than that, but we don't want any flaming poo-filled baggies on the doorstep if it takes more than 2, so with this crew, it's just safer to say 48 ... :lmao:
