Is it alive?

Post by Spike »

As you can tell we are live again. Generally things went very smoothly with only a few bumps in the road. Hopefully the only thing you guys and gals will notice is that the site is faster. I tested everything I can think of and it all seems to have migrated well.

If you find any problems let me know. Its the little things that have gotten us in the past like avatars, gallery pictures, etc. Also pass long if you find any dead links. If you have problems with email (especially those that are using the list serve integration) either getting notifications or getting the Digests, please pass that on as well.

Hope this place works out better for you. Over the next day or so I have some house cleaning things to do then Ill take a short break. After that I am going to get on the software upgrades that we need and look into some of the functionality you guys asked for.

Have fun and don't break it

It is alive, it is!

Good job Spike. It is always a pain to upgrade and it appears to have gone well.

I did have one link that I use that is broken and will send a PM with it.

Thanks for all of you work on this! :good job:

Great.

I should point out that the URL of the forums did change. We changed it to make it harder for spammers to find us, though I expect it to last all of 2 days.

If you have links or bookmarks you used to get to the forums you will have to redo them.

Dead links that you find on the site though I do want to know about.

Thanks Spike, I'm sure it was a lot more work than you are implying, it always is! There are always some spam bots that will find things really quickly, but I expect you will see quite a drop off for months before they get their links updated. If you keep logs of invalid URL requests, I bet there will be a large number going to the old cgi directories for many many months. Spammer types keep going to broken URLs for a very long time, at least that is what I have found.

The sad thing is that I've already whacked 8 new spam accounts in less than 24 hours, so they've already found us. Better than the 50 each day that we were getting before, but still not good. :bang:

Thank you guys very much for putting this site back online.

While you were off I had to turn to crack to help alleviate my dependency. The crack was okay, but not as good as this site. Thanks for putting me back on the wagon -- well sort of.

Antony

P.S. -- I gave the rest of the crack to the Capt., so don't come asking.

Good grief, even with that graphic/security confirmation box, 8 already, big sigh.

Thanks for all the work you've done to the site recently..

I really notice a BIG difference in the speed.
It's now wickedly fast and as most who know me would agree
I like it fast ;)
