Fuel cost OUTRAGE!

Post by captain_john »

Well, the cost of everything is going up as a result and they are talking over $4 per gallon! It is already $3.5 or so around here!

It is just WRONG!

:x

Truckers are organizing a convoy demonstration and I think it is great! Maybe we should do the same and bust some TFR's or something! No not really, but something needs to happen!

To raise the cost of fuel without a viable alternative is akin to a monopoly.

Fuel QUALITY has never been worse and it has never cost more!

What is it going to cost for AVGas this summer?!?

I am just venting. I know that we really can't do much, but this is just wrong.

What can we do?

I had bad thoughts this week about my "machine" this week too...AVGAS went to $5.71 at my FBO.

All I can do to keep going, is HOPE that there is an alternative available when I'm done, OR BY SOME MIRACLE...AVGAS comes down in price...

If we would just announce intentions to opening up Anwar and some other areas I think the price would at least stabilize if not drop significantly. There is a lot of oil out there, it is just in our great wisdom the government will not let the companies go get it. It is okay for us to buy oil from a country that doesn't care about the environment at all, but not okay to allow managed production on our own soil. Makes no sense to me.

Well there is my $.02 worth.

I just don't know where to start!

We just need more energy! We need more CLEAN energy like NUKES!

If we built more nukes we would not be polluting the environment because it would be more affordable for the individual to install electric heat which is clean, maintenance free and does not pollute! Air conditioning would be more affordable too! Oil could still be used to produce gasoline, the only REAL solution to our vehicular energy requirements.

Oh, and bring DOWN the price of petroleum and related products because of the SURPLUS!

We need $0.50 cents a gallon again!

I'm still waiting to buy a Mr. Fusion unit to power the next plane.

Actually even the founder of Green Peace has capitulated on nuclear power and said we need WAY more nuclear power plants. The rest of Green Peace is calling him a sell-out.

That is no sell out. Nuclear power is TOTALLY GREEN!

I am no "greenie" by any stretch, but I know a good power source when I see one!

My ultimate experimental plane engine will have 250 hp for 15 minutes and 200 hp for continuous duty up to 35,000' and run on coffee grinds and eggshells. The emissions will be Captain Morgan's Rum!

im with you on the nuke part but i am unsure of the totally green part. dont we take the spent fuel rods and and store them. then make shells for tanks to shoot at our enemys. i know its depleted uranium. is there no contamination from that....i could,or maybe i should ask my brother, as he boiled water for twenty years in the NAVY.

How is the price stability John? I sympathize with your costs, though I think a large portion of the complaints on this side of the pond are caused by the volatility of pricing.

High costs are one thing, but high costs that jump %10 over 48 hours are, in my opinion, much worse. It makes it difficult to plan budgets, etc. I don't think many of us over here see any real reason for cost shifts like this without coming to the conclusion that much of it is greed.

On the highway, people are still blowing by me at 70 mph. If we all just slowed down for a few weeks (by, say 5 mph), we'd see the price come down. But for some reason, people aren't making the connection It's not as if we're completely without the ability to affect price.

Strange thing is on the reactor power subject, in the Southeast, there is a huge over abundance of reactor power available due to the shutdown of a massive amount of textile mills.

This power is so cheap that my employer sells a huge amount of high voltage electrode boilers into this area because the power companies need somewhere to offload all the extra capacity they have. Seems a reactor plant does not like to idle so if they keep them running, they need some load. During off peak hours, the electrode boiler can run at a cost of as little as 1/3 the cost of gas or oil fired units. It is cool to see a 50 megawatt boiler running with absolutely no emmissions whatsoever being powered by a low emission nuclear plant. Burry the spent fuel rods in a cave and forget about them!

My question is, why not sell all of this power off to the areas with less nuclear plants? I'm sure there is a reason but it seems like they should be doing that instead of giving it away at cut rate prices. They most likely make more on selling it at a super low price to local factories instead of selling it to a neighboring power system grid.

We were just talking about that this weekend Bob!! Seems like so many people say "I'm going to change my driving habits." When???? I'm not seein' it! I can see the fury in people's eyes when they are behind me, and I'm doing 40 in a 45 zone, or I pull away from the light slowly, and they're RIGHT on my bumper, or ZOOM around me giving me the finger. It happens DAILY...

I totally agree Bob. I have slowed down drastically over the past year and increased my mileage 15%. People sure get mad at me, etc. Fuel prices are painful, but the market sure would show that it isn't quite painful enough. Though, I would say that this is a slow boat with lots of momentum. It could take years for the economy to adjust, and I would estimate we will see the biggest effects in the vehicle types purchased over the next few years. Still, as you point out, I believe the right foot has a bunch more power over the market than people think.

My guess would be because its not easily transmitted over really long distances. The efficiencies probably take a big hit?

OK: this is exactly what I have paid for an equivilent US gallon today (I've used one of those on line currency converter charts :) ) - $7.50 for 98ron unleaded (we have only one grade here)

We have had a oil processing plant strike today, which processes North sea oil, this has made many folks go into panic mode, and start filling their tanks for no good reason, and it has created an added shortage.

I'm not too worried about my car fuel, but the price of my flying is going through the roof, which is really a worry.

That's because you live in Illinois Chad!

My fear is what all the high AV GAS prices are going to do to general aviation. Less people in the sport/hobby, and those that are hanging in there will fly less and become less proficient. Not to mention what it will do to the aviaiton industry.

May have to resort to the power source that got me started in aviation many moons ago.....Rubber bands! :o
