Electric cabin heater from ACSS

Post by cjensen »

Anybody looked in to this for cabin heat? I've asked a similar question before, but never came across this particular item-

Hmm, they very will might work. Looks like they will put a fairly large load on the electrical system. Though, if it keeps the wife happy ....

Yeah, I was kinda thinking I could run a dedicated circuit off the backup battery. I've been looking for something useful (rather than dead weight) to put a little weight up front because of the 320 and 13 pound prop...no CO problems either...

Is this going to be IN LIEU of the conventional system?

Personally, I doubt that it will be hot enough for you.

A second battery is kinda a bit much. If you use a PC 680, it would be DEAD in less than .5 hours!

I am installing seat heaters in conjunction with the typical setup.

I wouldn't think that would heat the whole cabin. It might help keep the wife's feet warm but if it is cold out and you are moving along at RV speeds it is going to take the heat from the big noise maker up front to keep things warm. That plus the seat heaters I have.

OF course I could be totally wrong.

I'm definately no expert - but don't IR heaters heat the object and not the air around them? :?:
I've seen these kind of things in large warehouses or open air restaurants. They seem very efficient... and I've been surprisingly comfortable. But, like I said - I'm no expert.

Where are you guys getting seat heaters from? I was thinking of something like that but I haven't really seen it anywhere for a plane. I thought adapt a car system, but if someone make them, it would be easier.

Most are adapting the one's for automotive use. These are the one's that were someone did a group buy on a while back, and I'll probably use them.

I'm a big fan of heated vests. Especially ones with heated collars. By keeping the torso warm, the whole body stays warmer. All with no added weight to the airplane. I use one on my motorcycle, and have jacks installed in the -8 for them.
