It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I hope that at some point we get reliable reporting of it.

I would imagine with everything at stake for her that it will take quite a long time to work it's way through the court system if this is legit news story.

well i trust the media for puttin spin on a dog turd but i would also bet they have something to go on or wouldnt be bitting at such a high profile person. i am sure patty has the funds to retaliate with a slander suit. quite honestly 90% of the u.s. population does not even know her name. so it isnt like shes gonna sell millions of papers or increase viewership a tick. if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck it probally is a duck.
i hope it was somehow a mistake. i really thought she was squared away.

Weird. Patty Wagstaff gets tagged for drunk driving and somehow the media is at fault? Good lord.

Oh well. It's Wisconsin, drunk driving is practically the state sport.

I heard some fascinating behind-the-scenes stories about Patty during Oshkosh.

She gets no points from me just because she flies a plane.

I was not suggesting that the media is a fault Bob. I was only suggesting that we don't have any facts other that she was charged and as of yet everything else would be speculation. Its speculation that I was trying to discount regardless of who may be reporting it.

In her statement released by her lawyer, she stated that she was never checked for alchohol, field test or anything. She said that she briefly drove on the runway in her own vehicle, which she had a site permit for, after leaving the event.

Maybe it is as simple as an overzealous rent a cop security guard who called the cops.

maybe. although i didn't see too many rent-a-cops at Oshkosh. I saw a lot of the real thing. And I believe many EAA's volunteer security forces are cops in real life.

You know what IS interesting, though? It's interesting that AvWeb removed the original story from its archives.

She's sponsored by some BIG buck advertisers in Belvoir publications.

I don't know what the real story is, but if if the police were called in and didn't administer any sobriety tests, this story has been blown way out of line. It is simply a he said she said, with no solid facts.

What was she charged with? If they haven't charged her with anything, what is keeping this story alive.

What would be the charge for driving on the runway, tresspassing???

She WAS charged. She was charged with drunk driving on a complaint from the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office. It's now in the hands of the district attorney, according to the Northwestern.

We don't know the facts yet. The only facts we do know are that AvWeb killed previous versions of a story about one of their biggest advertiser's sponsored act, and substituted her story in its place.

That, to me, is a much more interesting story of the media in action that a nothing story about a citation. It makes me wonder how much the product reviews in their publications are doctored so as not to offend an advertiser. If so, they're useless reviews.

No, but I'm saying the fact the story disappeared is interesting. It's not something a news site usually does. Most of the time when I've seen it happen, it's to -- well -- make the story go away. Then the question becomes, why would AvWeb want to make a story go away?

Absent any other answer, "to appease an influential advertiser" comes to mind.

So what's worse, slugging a cop while you're sober or intoxicated?

I've been in contact with the editor of AvWeb. He says the story that was removed on Friday was the same story he posted on Sunday.

I've written about it on Letters From Flyover Country. If I get time on Tuesday, I'm going to call the DA over there and find out what the heck is going on because the work on it so far has been completely half a$$.
