Great job! I hope to hang mine this weekend. Do you have any suggestions to make it any easier?

This is what worked for us...and it was on in less than an hour with no issues...

Get the bottom two bolts/mounts in, and put the nuts on, but just a few threads worth.

Then let the engine sag down a bit on the hoist, and install the top bolts/mounts. Just let it sag enough to get the forward half mount in between, then lift it back up to line up the bolts.

Once all the bolts are in, each mount will need to be adjusted with washers to get the cotter pin hole lined up as the mount bottoms out. I have three washers on the bottom mounts, and FOUR on the top. Each one is different though.

That's how we did it, and it worked great!

Chad, as I prepare for this, I have the bolts, nuts and washer as per Van and the Lord mounts each came with one large washer. Do you have the part number for the extra washers you had to use?

Those are on the nut side, and are AN-960-716's or 716L's as needed.

Chad-

Congratulations on hanging your engine! How did you end up torquing down the nuts?

I've asked our shop guys about this, and I get different answers. Some say to tighten the nut down with washers spacing the nut, and torque the bolt while holding the nut. We couldn't get a good hold on the nut to do that.

Others say to run the nut down until it bottoms out, then add however many washers are needed to get the cotter pin in position. This is the way we did it. The nut is run down until it won't go any farther with washers in place.

Torquing with rubber biscuits in the way seems tricky...

I think the value for the AN7 bolt is 450-500 in-lbs.

Thanks Ian,
I have one helper now but would welcome the extra set of eyes and fingers. It would be about a 1.5 hr drive from Marietta to Blue Ridge... or I can pick you up at 1A3 (Copperhill, TN). Might be dicy on Saturday with Hanna hitting SC.

We'll play it by ear... Dan has 6 acres of land in blue ridge that we like to go up to and shoot some... we've been wanting to go up there lately cause we got a couple new guns. Might make for a fun weekend!

I'll speak with him this evening when I get home, then give you call. I'd love to see your project! Dan's quite experienced, so he might be helpful.
