anyone ever cut the black plastic knob off the manual elevator trim?
I'm toying with the idea of making a aluminum knob to replace it, but noticed it appears to be pressed on.

Now thats a wild idea. Though whatever you do will need to be able freely and easily rotate 360 degrees.

those look really nice and professionaly made...watch out or you'll be in buisiness.
i dont know much about that system except the elevator trim on an rv 6 i flew in was very touchy. are you somehow gonna make a knob for the piece you mentioned removing?? (the friction ring)
also are you gonna annodize those parts?

william....don't let it beat you down, you are stronger than you think.
yes, I'll be replacing the "hold/release" knob with an AL piece. The friction it supplies is neccesary to keep things where they belong, I also think they help with the twitchiness.
may anodize them, depends on what I do for covering near them. With the right background, I might just give them a high polish....We'll see.

That looks great. I have manual elevator trim on my RV-6A and I am wondering how to mark it to show when you have the trim in take off position. Since I have not flown my airplane yet, I have some questions that may be answered after I have flown my RV-6A. I have a friend who has electric trim for his elevator on his 6A and he is looking at a new option to slow down the response of his electric trim. I think manual trim solves the whole problem but I don't know a good way to mark when the the trim is in the take off position!
