Strobe light drain wire

Post by RVNewsletter »

I've got three three-wire shielded cables coming to the Whelen strobe power supply. Each, of course, has a drain wire which needs to be connected to the power supply housing/mounting.

What's the best way to do this:

(1) splice all three wires onto a single wire, put a connector on that wire and attach that? (and if so, what size wire should I use?)

(2) Stick a connector on each of the drain wires and attach them to the same stud on the housing?

Bob,

I'm not going to claim this is the best way, but it's working well for me. I spliced a pigtail to the braid on each of the strobe wires. I then covered the joint with heat shrink. This is all per a tip I saw on Bob Nuckols' site. Attachment to ground was made by crimping a ring terminal on each pigtail and ran them all to one of the mounting fasteners for the strobe power supply.

Building a 9A with too much fuel and too much engine - should drop dead any minute now.
