I missed that this was in a sticky thread the first time I replied (sorry Spike), so I'll start this one to answer your question Matt.

The scale is nothing more than a piece of paper with 1 to 16 and some lines. I printed on a laser printer, cut it out, and wrapped some packing tape around it. I just use it to be able to set the preload the same each time based on the metal thickness, the thicker, the more preload I use. The trick if you can call it that, was printing it at several scales so when it was wrapped around the screw the gap between 16 and 1 was the same as between all the other numbers.
