Getting back to building and (re)motivated

Post by RV9inIowa »

After an economy induced delay I'm getting back to the RV project. I've finished the panel and subpanel work and have started buying avionics (yikes :o ) This will be a dual screen AFS system, with a 430, 327, Icom radio, and a PSE 5000EX audio panel. Also has a Trio Pro Pilot and 496.

The finishing kit should arrive in about 2 weeks... my goal is to get the canopy done before the weather gets cold so I can build / install the engine in the fall / winter. Maybe fly next year... maybe? :?

Here is one reason there has been a delay:

New one (Fergus) in 10 weeks old... already potty trained and a great member of the pack. (Chad - are you jealous :) )

Thanks all! I'm really looking forward to the finish kit arrival. I've got a few small tasks left but I can't wait to start the canopy. I'm hoping it will be as easy as all of the other "hard" parts so far.

The pack will be able to help in the summer, once the new one is trained on the Invisible Fence.

Wow, what a panel--I think you will have more in your panel than I do in my entire airplane :) I don't think I could learn how to run all of that equipment.

Get back to work, only 6 weeks of nice weather til winter starts again :bang:

Last big box from Vans on the way

Just talked to Partain's driver... my finish kit is moving East! There is apparently some sort of fuselage on top of it, so we get to have some RV fun moving it around THIS SATURDAY when the truck hopefully arrives!

I'll have the canopy done by Tuesday!

Welcome to Spring - NOT

Post by RV9inIowa »

After a whole week of great weather spring has arrived in Iowa with 3 inches of snow. The Partain truck got slowed down in Nebraska yesterday, so we are hoping to get the finishing kit this evening!

pictures of my finish kit

Post by RV9inIowa »

OK Spike - you are right that we need pics... so here they are, starting with the truck from Partain:
Image
Michael the driver was great. We had to move out an ultralight (!) and an RV-9A QB fuse to get my box:
Image
Image
Then we put the big box on a dolly and wheeled it into the garage. I'm building in the single stall side, but for now I'm unloading in the "car" side of the garage:
Image
Here is what I found after opening the lid (and removing an infinite number of staples). Very well packed, as always:
Image
I started to unload the box - and stopped to take a picture of the pretty pink cowl. I don't know anything about fiberglass, but I'm impressed with the quality of the cowl:
Image
Unfortunatley for my, there is a large and expensive piece of plastic in the box :( and even worse I had to move it :o to get to the goodies underneath:
Image
Image
Image
I've finished the inventory (except for the hardware kit)... and I'm going to start (gulp) on the canopy frame next.

Wish me luck - it's cool to think that this is the last "big" box that will be delivered.

BTW - big recommendation for Partain Transport. He was a little cheaper than ABF, but came right to the house. I wouldn't have wanted to pick up that big box down at the freight terminal!

Good luck with all the new parts Dave. Glad to hear another positive report on shipping, too bad they don't cross the border to the north, or south for those of you north of southern Ontario who get worse winters than we do :P.
