I called my engine builder, he sent over an AD list that originally went with that engine, showing what was addressed or what was N/A. Many items were NA because of the changes I made.

According to the EAA, Experimentals DO NOT have to comply with AD's. The reason being is AC 39 and FAR 43 are applicable to only aircraft with a type certificate. Therefore, no legal reason to do them. However, there is a clause in the Op Limits which a builder states the aircraft is in a safe and airworthy condition. Not addressing AD's may be interpreted as a safety issue rendering the aircraft unairworthy. you don have to comply but you should address them.

So I sent the AD list to FSDO and he accepted it. He also backed down from the other stuff he wanted me to do.

Still not counting my chickens until they hatch a Cert of AW.

YEP, should have kept my mouth shut, I've spoke too soon. FAA wants to come out tomorrow to check on decals and engine data plate and redo some paperwork.

Congratulations Brian :) Ihope the weather out there is better than what they are forecasting for here tomorrow. We are supposed to have 10-20 mile an hour winds from the NW with gusts. Not a good day for a test flight :bang: We can't wait to hear about your first flight. The day is coming soon! :)

Inspection went well this time. The paperwork that needed redone was for my Repairmans Cert. He was ok with the engine dataplate. We discussed the AD issue to both our understanding and satisfaction. the static ports were labeled per his request...I'm thinking the decal looked loose as I left the hangar, darn thing might have fallen off by now.

scott, you're not helping. :mrgreen:

I need to get current. I've only flown 18 hrs in the last 15 months(10hrs of which was last May for BFR & RV training) So my skill level is not the best. I've got too much invested to make a mistake now. I'll most likely wait for a RV pro and also get a couple laps in his -7. Weather is going to crap tomorrow night anyway.

My airplane was signed off on 12/18/08 but I waited until 5/9/09 for the the test pilot I wanted to get back from Florida. He flew it and then gave the pilot that flies my airplane dual and a complete checkout in flying RV-6A's. That meant I couldn't get a ride in it until the 25 hours were flown off on 6/12/09 but hey I got two rides that Day :) :) I have heard of several people who have done their own first flight and weren't ready. Some of them did not fair so well! I had over hours in RV-6's but no medical and the FAA still won't give me one. However I am reall glad I waited until Tom got back from Florida. Patience is a virtue and usually I don't have it but don't rush the first flight until you know you are ready!

Don't be in a rush to do it yourself, you have lots to lose and not much to gain. I did my own, but I fly about 125 TW hours a year, and had just done transition a couple weeks prior. One week is nothing in the big picture!!
