Re: Port-A-Port!
What's even cooler about this particular hangar is that I built it from scratch. No plans. Just bought a bunch of steel tubing and kept peeking one of the local port-a-ports to figure out what went were. Took about 30 days. I'm quite proud of this ol' hangar. The planes have come and gone but this hangar is constant. It' doesn't look too bad after 13 years does it?captain_john wrote:
HEY!
That is a Port-A-Port hangar just like mine!
I insulated and heated mine. I will get some pics of it this summer when Bill H's -6 is flying.
Cool hangars!!! Someone should start selling those again! They would sell like hotcakes to RV builders!!!

Yeah it bounces a lot more with a little kite on the back than it does with an earth-mover on the back. Had me nervous because at many points it looked like it was going to bounce clear off. Luckily Dennis knows how to lash his loads down. He hauls planes all the time and he hasn't lost one yet.lancef53 wrote:I think you had plenty of trailer for the plane, nothing like a 50 ton detach for a 600 lb fuselage![]()
Good to see you move, I moved my 8 on friday. It looks like a plane when you get the wings on!

Yep. I learned to weld on that hangar. You can tell where I started welding, and you can tell where I finished.
Just like airplanes, I couldn't afford to buy one so I built it. At the time it cost me $3500 in materials. The bulk of that cost being the siding.

How did I miss your request Spike? Oh well, here is the update.
Everything is done except for some minor work on the cowling and painting the miscellaneous pieces. The last bit of work was to skin the wings and that is taking almost as long to do as it would applying regular fabric. These wing skins slip on over the ends of the wings like a sock and then are fastened to the root rib with screws. The root rib is then cranked inboard via two bolts and that stretches the fabric tight. Sounds easy right? Right....

And here's a picture of the plane of when I had just finished rigging the wings.

As soon as I put the wings back on and get the fuel lines hooked up we'll put gas in her and see if she wants to start up.
After that I'm calling the FSDO to schedule the airworthiness inspection.

Count on it Brian. Emmet Welch and Joey Meyers will probably make it a flight of three.
I was very remiss not to identify the RV-6A to the right of my plane in the hangar. He started his 6 before I started my 4. I finished my 4 before he finished his 6.
Also in the back you can see the spinner and prop on an RV-7A. The prop is sticking out of the front of an Eggenfelner Subaru. Anybody want pictures of that?
