Anybody have ideas for a aviation themed rec room/bar?
Anybody have ideas for a aviation themed rec room/bar?
Since I have the 8 flying, my project this winter has been an addition to our house. Not near as fun as working on the plane, but nice to have more room.
We will have a tv/rec room upstairs that will have a small bar in the corner, and was trying to tie an aviation theme into it.
Any thoughts?

If it were me...I'd start out with a barnstorming mural on a wall, and the other walls would be adorned (not overkill, but classy) with classic/antique aircraft framed pictures. The table in the room would be from MotoArt (hey, it's not my money I'm spending here), probably a B-25 elevator or something. The couches would be classic brown leather as a nod to the bomber jacket, and I'd have odd old (uber clean) airplane parts around the room for conversation pieces.
How's that for a start!!??

Wow--I wonder how much the motoart stuff costs? They don't list any prices on their site.
You know the saying, if you have to ask, you can't afford it!!
I like the radial idea, that would be awesome!!
I have the back half of an RV-7 that I bought for some parts--I wonder if the wife would go for that?
Maybe make a bar out of the horizontal stab?

Jim Pappas is friends with the guys at MotoArt...he may be able to chime in on it a bit more. It's expensive stuff tho. I got to hang with the guys at Sun N Fun back in '02 with Jim, and they are great guys!
Making a bar from the 7 HS would be REALLY cool!!
How 'bout this to tuck in the corner...

Motoart
I am friends with them and was just at the Xmas party they throw back in December.
It depends on what you want and it is pricey but the quality and workmanship is unreal. I have been tempted to copy them for myself since I've been in the shop a lot and seen how they do it but having seen it I DON"T WANT TO! Lots of work and nasty.
I did buy a Receptionist desk from a 747 cowl and a Boardroom Table made from a DC6 Rudder that was 14 feet long for our plant offices.
Prices change all the time based on what they can get to work with. There's a lot of man hours into each piece.
If you can afford it they can build you anything you want.
They even have a bar made out of cowlings, bar carts from airliners and lots of other stuff.

Dave and Donovan if you contact them are the owners, you can tell them you know me and they won't charge you extra for knowing me;)

I saw it last fall, it was pretty neat to see the old age of aviation. I think it is on Netflix also.

Now this to me would be the cat's meow. Sometimes I love aircraft parts just for their machinery. If I were rich I'd consider buying a Rotac just to put it on display somewhere. Maybe right next to some Ducati's, etc.hydroguy2 wrote:I've got a friend with a 5cylinder Kinner radial over his mantle

I have a bent prop from a twin, no I didnt do it but thats what all my non pilot friends ask when they see it on my window sill of my office, well thats where it used to be.
I have a throttle Quadrant from a T2C like I worked on/flew as crew in during Navy days and a Speed Brake door from one that will get painted with NAVY VT23 on it just like it was on the birds in my squadron and will live on the wall. The Quadrant I plan to mount on a nice base of walnut for the coffee table.
It was all going to be in the hangar or office at work but now will be in my Apartment. I'm working on getting a Mccauly aluminum cessna prop to hang on my wall and I plan on making a desk from a wing or HS depending on the aircraft I can find.
That's the plan anyway.

My brother has a tire from Rusty Wallace's car in his bar. His wife told him to give it back to him because she is sick of storing it for him!cjensen wrote:Just tell her that it's a piece of aviation history (Howard Hughes owned it!) that needs to be preserved...and what better way than to put it on display in the aviation rec room!!
