I was seriously JONESING!!!

Tell me, one weird thing was that the picture linking still worked. Looks like Patti didn't drop the ball!

Why was that? Different server?

Do you mean that you could still get to the gallery?

Yes, the pics were still being served. I found some that I posted elsewhere that were alive and well!

Ahhh, the short answer is that we had the galleries up and running well before the bbs. I think the galleries were up and running by Monday night. It took a few extra days to get the bbs itself up as I had to configure the new database, restore it, as well as rebuild PHP and get the cgi stuff up and running.

I've got some new hardware coming that should help solidify us and hopefully give us a speed boost, though the current new server seems pretty quick.

No, we had a sector of the HD go bad in the swap partition. It caused a kernel panic and a few days worth of subsequent work :)

That is correct, though it is a very useful tool. It is *NOT* a replacement for regular backups though. By the way, if anyone cares, the new hardware for the site was just delivered.

Its homegrown, a regular newegg.com special :)

Pentium 4, 2.8 GHz, 512Kb on board, 800MHz bus.
1 GB DDR 400
80 GB SATA HW RAID 1
Gb ether (though I dont think our new provider will be able to keep up with that)

I will most likely load up some distribution of Linux, Fedora most likely. I was originally thinking of FreeBSD but I think that I dont want that level of tinkering on a box that I want to put on the edge and forget about.

Since you are a server type, I could use some help if you know something that may help. I am looking to build this puppy into a 1U rackmount, which is a first for me as Ive only down desktops before, and its been a while at that too. Obviously its cheaper to host a 1U than it is a 2U or tower. Do you know of any good rackmount case suppliers that are reasonably priced or you have had good results with?

Newegg is a pretty good place to do business with. It's hard to beat their prices and they actually have pretty decent customer service.

This "new" server seems a lot faster than the one that blew up.... can't wait to see how fast it gets when we're on our own server.
