Van's Safety Article on FB

Post by smithhb »

Brian, do you mean this post?
                Brian Chesteen
Brian Chesteen I offer the following comment in regards to Jan and the return to airport proceedure in the event of a power failure. In most cases, Jan only demonstrates this proceedure to his students. He does this to show them the capabil...ity of the airframe. He is also very specific on what conditions this proceedure should be attempted. He states that 500ft AGL is a must. He also demonstrates the level of skill required for a steep banking/diving turn in regards to airspeed control, cross control concerns and reaction times. Which is better? A person totally oblivious to what it takes to perform this manuver making a quick decision to try it while totally unprepared or someone that has been shown the requirements, risk and skill needed to pull it off? I for one am less likely to attempt this proceedure since I have had these things demonstrated to me. Prior to the training, I would most likely have tried it since I did not know any better. To me saying that an instructor should not demonstrate this is similar to saying that one should not demonstrate spins or simulated engine failures or how to land on a 675' farm strip.

Subject: Van's Safety Article on FB

Looks like I am a victim of more censorship because I stated my opinion on Van's FB column.

My reply was specific and to the point and was tasteful and did not attack anyone but it was deleted.

I have a big problem with Companies and individuals that claim to want to be open/communicate/collaborate with their customers, peers and fellow RV builders but instead maintain their dominate position by exercising their censorship ability knowing that the one censored has no way to respond to such actions.

I guess we are all supose to just be pittiful minions without a brain and do and believe just what we are told by the self proclaimed Gods of this world......

I was too quick on the trigger....

The problem was with FaceBook, not with Van's, my post was not there and then all of a sudden it was back. I tried to delete my post here but I did not realize it would go out to all the people subscribed to the Hangar forum!

Spike sent me a message as soon as I deleted my rant post from here.

He was afraid everyone would think that he censored me...hahhaha

Anyway, seems there is much censorship going on around the Internet by people in control and when I thought my comments to Van's had been deleted, it pushed me over the edge.

Sorry for the confusion!!! I do however still hate some of the censorship going on... I for one am glad to have a place where you can speak your mind (within reason of course) and no body will delete your post!

I thought your post was appropriate, so it would have surprised me to have it censored.

Well I though so to so that is why I was so po'ed when I saw it was missing. FB is a weird creature sometimes.

I was quick to judge because I have seen many appropriate post axed lately. I figured this was just another example. But I was wrong. Sorry Van's!

Wow! Lots to talk about here! We could have a thread for each component of this conversation!

I am sorry that I didn't see it on FB but I am not what you might call "active" on that site.

I guess it all started with Jan teaching the "fatal turn". Yes, He taught me and I safely completed the "fatal turn" in his -6. There is no doubt that it can be done in an RV in my mind. Jan is right.

Censorship at the other place is RAMPANT! That is why I rarely visit that place anymore. I could give you several instances in particular, but I will save that for beers at OSH instead. That way I can be my eloquent self! hahaha
