An Introduction

Post by cbkillion »

I've been a lurker here for a long time but I guess it's finally time I come out of the shadows. I started an 8(a?) back in November and have been intentionally moving slowly on the empennage but it's now nearing completion. Since I've been running out of things to do on it, I've had time to get my build log website completely up to date.

It's http://www.rv8plane.com.

I would love for people to peruse it and drop me emails with comments/feedback as I progress whenever they want because I feel like it's extra sets of eyes on the project, of which there haven't been too many (just an aloof roommate and a sometimes disenchanted neighbor from the downstairs apartment).

You might notice my site looks strikingly similar to Mike Bullock's website... that's because I stole it from him (don't worry, I asked first :)). Thanks again, btw.

Also, thanks for putting this community up! I really like this forum and think it's the best place around! I look forward to participating here now that I have a horse in this race.

Hi Brett. Building in an apartment, that has to be a challenge. Welcome to an incredible journey, don't get overwhelmed by how much work this is, just take one thing at a time. Keep involved with other builders, like here, it really helps.

Thanks everyone!

Chad, as a matter of fact I just got back from the UPS store about an hour ago because I needed to borrow their fax machine to send in my order for the wings!

As far as building in an apartment, it wasn't too bad (except for the noise) because most of the pieces were small. The only thing that got a little cumbersome was the horizontal stab. Trying to maneuver that boat around between the wall, the couch, and the dinner table got a little interesting. For the record, the HS is about 4 inches wider than a conventional ceiling is tall. Also, in a battle of HS rear spar vs. sheet rock ceiling, the spar wins...
