Random Observations...

Post by Brantel »

I am perplexed by the current events over on the VAF forum.

There seems to be some major tug o war going on between some members and Doug and his moderators.

Seems there is a growing movement againts the way the site is moderated.

I am not sure what to think of it all. The VAF is a great resource as is Rivetbangers. I read and participate in both. I do not think this site is a threat to VAF and neither is VAF a threat to this site. Spike does not do this for compensation so they are really apples to oranges.

The point is that I would hate to see anything happen to either site.

I have seen Doug's statement detailing his stance on the matter. I am not gonna say I either agree or disagree with his rules.

What do you guys think?

Hmmm, I couldn't find anything or get any hints on that which you refer. Linky? Come to think of it though, how do you find anything over there? :headscratch:

There have been tons of threads started and deleted shortly after. Apparently threads deleted by one mod and brought back to life by others. A few mods being accused of deleting anything that does not agree with their own personal agenda. All kinds of stuff like that.

Today I found this announcement on the forum:

http://www.vansairforce.com/community/a ... nt.php?f=2

So apparently this issue is all the way to the top over there.

Brian we are there long enough to know who is who and how it's running. We even can predict what would happen after first post of a known member. We can even put exact wording can't we?

I find it's a knowledge treasure both technical and regulatory and a healthy place for strictly RV communications. A business well run hoping it'll stay that way. There are several pilot boards I participate with different atmospheres which I found unique as well. RB is one of them.

I concur.

I am normally full VAF supporter and pay on January every year. This yea I haven't renewed my support. I think VAf is a great place for info, but some of the shine is wearing off. You need to be careful on what and how you say something. Whereas on RB I feel I can share almost anything(keeping it clean of course). AND I won't get jump on if someone doesn't agree with me or my method.

I like it here if you'll have me

Hmmm, where do I start?

Spike and I go waaaaay back. I was going to start my own site when Spike started his because I knew WE ALL needed another venue than the YAHOO! groups.

YES, this site PREDATES Doug's! Spike and I agreed way back then that the BBS venue is better. It wasn't until Doug saw it that he created a BBS style forum. He wasn't going to do it at first! All he essentially had at that time was a blog.

Spike has a good group of people here and I like the small town atmosphere! Nice job, Spike!

For enthusiasts, by enthusiasts is the saying at the top of the screen. It was my idea and Spike likes the message. I think Doug TOTALLY MISSES the fact that without the builders, he is DONE! The vendors WILL NOT pay to keep his site alive without US! He should ONLY RECEIVE money from THEM! To ask us for money is greedy.

Speaking of greed, I used to do group buys on his site. In fact, I did three of them. Perhaps you were part of them? I did them for we builders. He got greedy and demanded a cut. He forced me out of helping you get good stuff cheap and working as a liaison to the industry to acquire good deals and a good repoire. Oh well...

There is more hipocrisy over there, but I will hold my tongue for now.

I ONLY reply to a thread over there to help a fellow builder. I am here for US. It is a truly symbiotic relationship. We help each other when we can. I know you guys are cool. I have eaten dinner with most of you and trust each and every one of you. There is nothing like an RV builder!!! A Rivetbanger is even better!

Didn't really want a pool, but it came with the house. We'll give it a year to see how it goes, but it should be ready for y'all!

4 seats? Plastic? Nah...not my style.

Hey all,

"I was out flying my RV yesterday...I'm an F-16 pilot...and had a really good flight. I flew to...I'm an airline captain...an airport and had a good lunch. Flying my RV reminds me of when I fly the F-16..."

Oh wait...sorry guys, I thought I was posting on VAF...

I agree with you guys. This site seems more friendly and welcoming ... If you are not part of the "in" crowd over there, well...

Plus, there is too much "mine mine mine" regarding the site. It is a good resource with lotsa information, but the vibe is not the same.

I wonder how long the long arm of the law is ... could we get banned over there for something posted here? LOL!!
