colonoscopy
colonoscopy
Can a colonoscopy help detect prostate cancer? My father recently had a colonoscopy. After the colonoscopy, the doctor told him that the prostate was very firm and in good shape. How could he detect this?

The colonoscopy itself has nothing to do with the prostate.
The only sure way to check the prostate is through a PSA test (bloodwork) or a biopsy. No need for that if it "feels" ok.
Whenever you are sedated, in this case most likely with propofol or diprivan, the doctor gives you an examination of the local area. The prostate is certainly local and while he had the hood up...
For instance they also check your skin for lesions and other stuff for other things.
Glad he is ok!
