Sausages and Scenery

Spring time in the Rockies is a busy time for a Hydroguy. But today I was off, the weather was beautiful and I could smell pancakes and sausage. Let's go get some Fly-in breakfast.

Plan for the morning was Townsend(8U8) to Stevensville (32S) for Airport Appreciation day. My Motto: will fly for food

Took off about about 9am. Climbout from Townsend was wonderful, here's looking east over Canyon Ferry Lake

About 1/2 way this is looking south the Pintler Wilderness in the distance

Bumpy up next to the hills, so we detoured to the lake. North end of Canyon Ferry Lake looking Southeast. 5500' descending towards Cemetery Island.

At home, we sat out in the sun for a bit enjoying the view with our hangar neighbors.


Flight time as 45minutes going over... including headwind and a go around. it's only 112nm, but we wandered around checking to sites. Coming back we had a few bumps, but running low over the lake is always a blast.

Keep going to the shop and pounding those rivets. Do something everyday.

Life is GOOD!

No OSH this year but our plan is to do more recreational weekend trips. This trip was the start. On Friday, if the weather/work window allows, we are headed to Cavanaugh Bay (66S). Camping, kicking back, maybe rent a boat, go for walks or read a book.

Thanks Chad, yes it is beautiful here. Problem is, I don't go and enjoy it like I should. We are making a serious effort this year to enjoy ourselves...some day we won't be young anymore.....oh wait, I'm already not young(but not old either).

it was a cool day and we didn't go very high, so I'd guess 11500DA maybe. We climbed to 10500'msl for the trip across the wilderness and to get out of the thermals. Coming back there was some afternoon buildups getting an early start to the day, so we stayed under for a while then turned north to get away from them. Smooth over the valleys at 9500.

On my drive home I was thinking about this post....

Field elevation is only 3800 or so. I'd guess the DA when we left was under 5000'. We were light so climbing out I remember seeing 1850fpm at 105kts. Easy to clear the mountains when you're in a RV.
