Chad,
I didn't insure my tail kit, as I didn't really think about it. Figured I had more to lose in tools than sheet metal, and those were covered by homeowners/renters.
Once I got my QB wings and fuse, I insured them through USAA. Got a total policy for $30K and it was real cheap, like $200/year, but don't quote me on that, as I don't have the policy in front of me.
I always figure it can hurt to insure the thing. If your place caught on fire I don't think it would be covered by homeowners/renters. And if you only insured the tail kit, it would be real cheap! And soon you will have wings, etc.
Take care,
Jim

Send me a check for $200 and I will personally insure the project from fire, theft and natural disasters for a period of one year.

tailkit insurance
As an Agent you should buy the most you can right now! (just kidding no flames please) Buy it only when you feel you need it and that's different for everybody.
As a builder I can tell you I have no builders insurance on my kit yet for the same reasons as Jim Robinette. I haven't got enough into it that I would be that upset (about the dollars anyway) but once I move on to the wings I will do it then.
Homeowners does not cover it or the liability if someone gets hurt from it so if your Agent tells you it is -- get it in writing!
I thought it was initially years ago and found out I was wrong. Luckily no homes or planes were hurt in that lesson, just my ego.
Hey Spike did you cut off my login? It didn't work today. Or are you kicking out us Insurance guys now
Be good guys and I hope it helps some.

CJ I'm not sure there's a big enough Insurance Company for that one
Heck, I'd probably eat up the profits myself
