The Elbert County Sheriff's Office said they learned of the crash near Matheson at around 12:42 p.m. Saturday after a witness heard an airplane flying overhead and then heard a thud.

Do we really need the FAA to be wasting money investigating these experimental type accidents that do not injure any innocent people on the ground? As amateur built experimental type, there is nothing the FAA can control for these builds, ie builder certification, parts, or installation. Why bother? It doesn't make sense. I plan on writing the FAA to understand why they are investigating these types of events. Save money in these hard times.
