AEX wedge primed?

Post by cjensen »

i was finishing up the riveting of the skin to skeleton tonight, and my next step is to start the trailing edge. i got to thinking about the pro-seal and if it will stick to the primer on the wedge that i already primed.

should i have done this? should i take the primer off to bring it back to the non-alclad surface? does the pro-seal act as a anti-corrosion agent?

here's my project currently! this is so fun!

ANYTHING... that functions as a durable barrier between the substrate and the environment wotks as a prevention measure against corrosion. The variable is "DURABLE". I qualify Proeal as being "Durable"!

Persnally, I would scuff the paint off anyplace the ProSeal is to adhere, and proceed.

The ProSeal would lkely adhere to painted surfaces, but a maroon scotchbrite pad would provide a better surface for the ProSeal.

You're going to pass me up. :) I did prime the AEX and had the same thought as you. I went ahead and left it. It held really well. It's going to be awhile before I can post the summery of what I did. My son flew my 152 down to Medford and when he got back my windsheild was pretty badly cracked. My A&P says that changing it myself will be good practice for me. So that's what I've been doing for the last couple of days. That and I'm replacing the wing tips next so it'll be awhile before I can start swingin on the RV again.

Nice work Chad. You keep posting pictures like that and Ill go to the funny farm. Good motivation for me to get the house finished up. Remember, the proseal's primary function is to merely hold the trailing edge pieces together and in alignment while riveting. Anything beyond that is a bonus. Id say just move forward with what you have. If you scuff up the sheet metal youll not only remove the primer but most likely removed the alclad also. If you do that then the proseal will be the *ONLY* protection you have, instead of leaving it there and making the proseal the tertiary protection.

Just my thoughts.
