How long ya been flying?

40 years flying....59 yrs old...24000 hrs..rv8...lots of bits and pieces.(i think there's an aircraft in there somewhere?...)...bush flying Nth.Australia and New Guinea back in dreamtime...) .....just about finished with with the "LNAV..VNAV...A.s in COMMAND "..stuff!!....looking forward to the world at 5000' again... totally humbled by the skilled and enthusiastic people on this and the vans forums!!

i.ve purchased a partially complete kit...wings and tailplane complete..fuselage to go.. out there and getting the skills!....setting up workshop!...digging into the forums like a feret !.. have to see what yu fellows are up to!!!..".Im in a NewBie state of mind"!!!........don.t want to cause a ruckus too early in the piece?...but I like like the look of the egg. subie....rgds to all!!

well, egg subie is my choice as of right now. i tend to shift my mind around a lot of ideas, but it's what i plan to end up with on the front of my -7.

Well it looks like I am not alone anymore.
Welcome Stanman. I live in Perth, started to get the tools together and will be building a -7A.

I have been around aviation all my life. My father was a pilot in the Army (just retired). Only seemed natural for me to follow in his footsteps. Spent the next 8 years flying around the country in Kiowa's and Blackhawks then decided that I wanted to have a normal life.

Working for the largest Helicopter operator in the world. SAR pilot on S-76a++. Great machine. Have flown B206, R22, R44, H300, C-172, B412/212 and the 76.

I love my job. It is my hobby so I never have to work a day in my life. Can't wait to start building.

Good to hear from you Stan, stay here as the guys are the best.

g.day..and tks to all for welcome.....good to hear from another aussie...like living on the moon down here!...have found a few rv builders in se qld...i believe theres a bunch of them around gold coast...hope to contact them shortly...sounds like your.re in the early stages like me .. what are thinking re engine?..rgds all

I like the sound of the diesel option but it is taking so long to get them out there in the market. If there are none to buy when I'm ready I was thinking of an IO-360 with Elec Ign.

I would love an MT prop but will probably go for a Sen, or Hart. Blended maybe.

gday all!!..you.ve probably deduced my computers skills are about level with my current aircraft building skills!!..never sure where my replies are going to end up......re Snap's.diesel preference..would be a great option...in particular the zoche aero diesel....very lite...90kgs....greatly reduced parts...5.5gls hr.cons..but two yrs away...going down the certified path..what.s needed is a full firewall forward package a la egg sube...maybe thielert or deltahawk will do something for the exp. category..rgds stan

Okay, I have been ignoring this thread, I guess it is time for me to post. I had started on my pilots license way back in 1976 and then due to job situation, moving, lack of money, and life in general never got my ticket.

In 1985 I had a friend whose son had just got his CFI and was looking for some hours. All I had to do was put gas in the C-150 and I had a free instructor. We flew about 6 hours in one week and he got a job out of state. Again I never got it done as I did not have the money to continue.

Move ahead to last summer and I decided it was time. Business has been good and I'm not getting any younger. I had always wanted to build a plane also and decided that I might as well bite the bullet. My son and I went to Osh with my wifes blessing and decided on an RV7A. The kit was ordered shortly there after. Now all I needed to do was to build it and get my license. Well I'm working on both.

I started on lessons again on June 20th, a little less than amonth ago, and today I soloed the mighty C-150. Woo Hoo! We had done 6 touch-n-goes and the instructor said to make the next one a full stop. I did and started to pull in and he said to just stop on the taxiway as he had seen enough and was going to get out.

Huh?

You sure about that? What about that 11 knot crosswind at 90 degrees across the runway? He said he was sure and before I knew it I was in the air by myself. I must say it felt great! That little ribbon of blacktop looked even smaller than usual but all turned out well. The landings were okay, though not the most beautiful but I did four and the plane is still useable.

There is a lot to learn yet but I look forward to it and am glad I decided to jump in with both feet this time. I must say all of the people I've met on this site, though the EAA, and at the local airport are great. This is a great hobby and I look forward to many fun filled hours in the future.

Congrats on the solo John,

Eventually, you can start to call it a "Lifestyle" when you have been doing it longer than 5 years

my wife calls it my hobby, but is starting to realize it will become a lifestyle soon enough.
