So, can I still be a rivet banger?

Post by papakeith »

I can't (due to size limitations) build myself an RV. Not too sure that I would even if I could. I don't think it fits in with what I want to be able to do with an airplane.

So I went and bought some plans for a plane that did fit me and my mission. I cut the first formblock this weekend. Notice the required helper in the picture:P

My question is, can I still hang out here? It's not an RV, but it is a aluminum rib/aluminum skin flush riveted wing. Seems to me lots of what y'all do here will transfer nicely to my project.

Puuuleeeaaaassseeee can I stay?

Wow Keith -- building from plans! Man you have my respect. I don't have the patience to do that anymore.

I would vote you in.

The plane is a Bearhawk, a 4 seat aluminum wing, tube and fabric fuselage, High wing design.

Should be interesting. In 8 months or so I should have the wing parts made to the point where you guys get your kits when they are shipped.

Plans built seems to be the only way that I will get a plane to 1: fit me, and 2: move at an acceptable (to me) speed.

The plans call for anything from 150hp- 260hp. with a cruise from 135-155mph vne 175 Useful load 1300.

That, and plans are a cheap buy in for a guy like me who has the room and the desire but not neccessarily the bankroll to dive right in.

John, I've been working weekends on the farm. Planting season y'know. On the bright side the 12,000 strawberry plants are in the ground, as well as some new fencing for the horses and . . . and. . . you know the drill I'm sure. gotta make hay while the sun shines. Speaking of, it's about time to cut some hay. I'll have to add that to the list, plus the corn planting has commenced :)

I've been meaning to give you a call. I want to get back up your place to finish my tool box, and see your progress. Heck, you must have the fuselage half done by now.

Plus, I've got a CD with all the videos and pictures from the trip to sanford. Minus one landing attempt. Some decent pics on there.

oh yeah, I'm still trying to figure out how to put that third wheel up front where it belongs!

That's a nice looking plane. Kind of like a Pacer on steroids. Wish I had one of those right now.

Beer and brisket is part of the deal. I knew that going into it.

Thanks for the well wishes. I've ordered up a couple of sheets of aluminum, nothing left to do but build I s'pose.

If I ever get around to making it, I've got a killer beef jerky recipe I'm gonna share with CJ and friends. Cripes, is it any wonder I'm 300+:o

More progress.
I managed to cobble together a build site over the weekend. If you want to check it out I'd love some feedback.

www.salisburyfarm.com/bearhawk949

Ain't rany days good for getting stuff done?
I balanced all of the bank accounts, tried to fix my sons bonneville(bad fuel pump near as I can figure), then set about doing the final sanding on my form blocks.

I almost got all of the formblocks finished too.

949 would make a cool tail number too! You should reserve something now!

Keep in touch and I am looking forward to some jerky!!!
