Chadley stirred up a hornet's nest!

Post by captain_john »

Whoa Chad!

The cost of flying thread over the other place went through the roof!

Even the price of doctors insurance got involved!

Hahahaha

I say make flying a priority and the money will always be in the budget!

That is my financial plan!

good job Chad, I think it's a good thing to think about stuff like this occasionally.
Too much thought like I'll fly no matter what comes down the pike is bad, but so is I'm canceling my lifestyle in order to save for the doomsday event.

Everybody's life is different. My kid are grown and gone, I'll be 50 next month. I'm ready to enjoy life until I can't.....could be tomorrow, might be 30yrs from now, either way I'm going flying now.

I know Cirrus drivers and ultralight guys alike that are having a hard time making ends meet. This is a tough economy, no doubt!

Flying is a pastime for sure. Flights of fancy are treats we could do without. It is probably tougher to lose your medical than your driver's license because you HAVE to drive but you WANT to fly!

I suppose it could be thought of the other way around too but for me the fun side of life is more important than the nuts and bolts of making ends meet. I also know that I am in the minority by a large margin.

The housing market is falling too. I was just looking at houses in Rangeley, Maine last week and prices are dropping.

Some are saying the "depression" is over and the economy is on a rebound but I just don't see it.

You know what the difference between a recession and a depression is? A recession is when your neighbor loses his job. A depression is when you lose yours!

Hang in there guys! Life is a wild ride!

There is nothing wrong with the economy for most people...people are just chosing what they want to spend their money on.

Case in point, there were over 20,000 runners that paid an entry fee of $120 last weekend just for the privilege of running 13.1 miles on a route thru Disney World. This is just a fraction of the total cost it took to get them there, park tickets, for food and lodging and for overpriced apparell and gear they bought while there. This also does not include the costs for the same for their family members that came with them......

This is just one example of stuff that I notice. The media says the sky is falling. Well not for the average Joe, I don't buy it. If this were true, most of us would not be on here playing with our toys. I say most of us are not rich but instead just the average wage earner that knows what we want to spend our money on....

I am with the above sentiments. The economy is not what it once was, but I do believe that a bunch of it is self fulfilling prophecy largely driven by the media. Its amazing what happens when you scare tens of millions of people out of spending their money over the course of years.

There are a bunch of people on hard times. But I also believe there are a whole lot more who aren't.

This is tough, personal topic. One that Patti and i have talked about. Some of us look at owning a certified aircraft while building another one. Boy is that silly. There will always be hobby out there that people are seriously interested in but can't, or can barely, afford. Whether its flying, boating, or bicycling. There is nothing special about flying in this regard.

To me the decision comes down to deciding to make more money (aka work harder), make some sacrifices, or move down the road to something else. And at the end of the day, that is a completely personal decision.

Around here, most houses are selling for approximately the sum of their parts. In Rangeley, Maine they are selling for LESS than the sum of their parts!

That is a problem for the construction industry, especially when we have a housing glut like this.

I have seen more houses for sales this year than ever before. I have also notice a large number of foreclosures.

Do you think there are more RV's and RV projects for sale now than last year?

Do you think that Van is selling less kits as of lately?

I really do hate to be a nay sayer but I don't see this year being financially better for the economy (people of the United States) thank previous ones.

I don't think it's over gentlemen.

Oh! ...and Michele just added another great point. Many people are using credit to keep afloat before they are filing bankruptcy! It is a false economy gentlemen!

We are seeing food costs go up. A bag of chopped walnuts in the cabinet purchased 6 months ago was $6.99. Last week the same bag at the same store was $9.99. Fuel is going through the roof and that will impact the cost of EVERYTHING!

I thought it was tequila and limes for zombies and walnuts for unwanted house guests.
