Ain't that the truth.

The events in 09-10 kind of necessitated the moves however. It didn't help that I had nowhere to build after the first move. I lost a couple years because of that.

You know, if you stopped all your moving around you could have been done with your project and flying now!

Chad's got it.

Though, I am not complaining. My life has taken a wonderful turn with the family and other priorities, and spam cans are sufficing. I am looking for a 4 place bird. Just sure wish that the EAB market would do something in the 200HP 4 seat class. I have no use or justification for something as large as a 10. 'Ello, any kit company out there listening? <tink tink tink> is this thing on?

Hey Dude, I am up for anything! Though, one wonders what Van is keeping his engineers busy with now that the 14 is out......

Though come to think of it Van originally put out the 10 with a 210 HP but has since backed away from it. Wonder how much work it would be for them to put together a 210HP package that they would find acceptable. Maybe a slightly smaller version of the 10?

Just dreaming obviously. Alternatively if Glasair would stretch the Sportsman to be a true four place I'd change the name of the board from rivetbangers.com to glasssanders.com

I was under the impression that it wasn't that Van's backed away from the offering, but more of the fact that nobody wanted to order one. With people installing high compression, ram air, cold air induction, etc, etc to get more HP, nobody wanted the simple entry level engine option. Of course, the result is the same. No sales interest means that Vans lost interest too.

I know that I'm guilty. When I started the build, I had all kinds of options I wanted on my engine. When it came closer to ordering and be unemployed for awhile, reality kicked into the situation.

With all that said, it still can be done. You just have a little more fiberglass work to do to customize your cowl.

On the other side of the coin:

Once you get by the purchase price, an IO-540 can be run pretty economical if you don't mind the longer travel times. I have a decision to make for every flight. Get there fast or get there less expensively.

Not much progress. My painter is dealing with a kidney stone. We are going on a week and he still hasn't passed it, although it moved and he's in less pain.

We did finish all the masking last night. He's suppose to shoot the primer on the fuselage this evening. I'm a few days behind in posting photos to mykitlog, but there isn't anything really interesting to post.

Once that get's on, I'm hoping that I don't have any more fiberglass work to remediate. Hopefully we'll have the white on by Sunday and finishing the striping next week.

Nothing like being held hostage by something you have totally no control of managing. :bang:

Interesting view Bob, and maybe a good one. For me the 200HP class just makes so much more sense. I agree that the 540 is a great engine, but I just don't see the need for the extra large purchase price or the price of maintaining & feeding the extra 2 cylinders.

I wonder if they would be able to support a 390 installation without causing the builder to figure out the entire firewall forward package.

My guess is probably not. Van's is still on the one option, one sku, support kit. I can't blame them. The more options that they make available, the more their support costs.

Once the RV-14 is available, I suspect that you may be able to use a fair amount of that FWF. I would be curious to see if they both use the same firewall. But when they'll make that FWF kit available, only Van's knows.

Sandy is causing more delays! The 40+ wind gusts here in Ohio has stopped the painter yesterday, today, and probably tomorrow. The wind is forcing the shutters on the paint booth exit air closed. The outside wind is more powerful than the exhaust fans. Since he can't exhaust the overspray, he can't paint.

I'll be lucky now if I'll get white on the fuselage by this weekend and the striping done by 11/10. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, I just am having problems getting to it. :bang:

Bob, I can only imagine how anxious you must be, being so close to fruition!

I am working regularly on the project and can see the light at the end of the tunnel just now. I am trimming the top of the baffles for the seal now.

I too plan to paint before I fly. That is next on my agenda. I need to convert my garage into a spray booth this winter!

Perhaps this spring/summer will be avionics time!?!

I think a wise man would wait until after OSH to see if there are any last minute changes to EFIS screens before committing to one. I wonder if that will be me!?!

Can't wait to see your pictures!

At least I am seeing some progress. My painter is still having medical issues, but he did get the primer and white on the fuselage this past week. My wife and daughter assisted me yesterday in getting the tape line for the metallic Phantom Gray marked. Below the blue tape line will be gray.

I hope to learn the painter's new schedule tonight. It looks like two more weeks before I get the fuselage back to the hangar. He's got six more paint sessions to complete the fuselage. I'm not comfortable moving the fuselage in the dark, so it now looks like the 17th at the earliest.

Here are a few photos:

Bob, patience is a virtue! Of course, you have no choice!

You have GOTTA BE chompin' at the bit to get this thing to the airport!

Just think though, you won't have to take it out of service to paint it later!

Keep us posted!

Looks great!
