I start with a hot shower and finish with a blast of cold. I’ve noticed that my feet are red during the hot part but turn pale when the cold hits. Once they turn pale, I figure it’s time to wrap it up. The body has three types of muscle, and taking a cold shower really works one of them.
Some of us feel the cold more than others. Your body works hard to maintain a core temperature of 37.4C degrees and when you're chilly it closes off your small arteries in the skin. This can make your extremities pale, but it's normal.

I check my blood pressure daily, and it seems to have dropped by 10 points across the board. The only explanation I can think of is the cold showers, which engage the smooth muscles in the arteries and improve circulation. I haven’t come across any literature mentioning this, and it’s just a single data point.
